Running races with a..... twist

Running races with a..... twist

Running events don’t always have to be serious or competitive! After all most of us are not professionals and we run for fun!!

With the popularity of running and multisport events ever increasing, event directors are always looking at innovative ways to keep us engaged and active. Running and the marathon boom started in the 1990s and, year on year, has increased in volume. Further into the new Millennium the start of parkrun created an accessible, free event every week and the ever-increasing inclusivity and accessibility to all those who wanted to take part in some fitness activity. There is now a step-change from your traditional races.

Here are some races with a ‘twist’. Be it being smothered in colour or sliding down a giant inflatable slide these races will guarantee you have some fun while keeping active.

Run or Dye:

Inspired by the Hindu festival of Holi, which is known as the festival of colours, Run or Dye give participants the opportunity to experience that thrill of a colour festival.

Run or Dye is a 5km race held at Penshurst Place in Kent and is accessible for all types of runner. As you run; walk or dance your way around the course, you are covered in safe, eco-friendly, plant-based powder-dye at each kilometre. Leaving your once crisp, clean white t-shirt looking more like the 90’s global technicolour t-shirts that were very popular.

At the finish, you’ll find a colourburst with a DJ playing music for you to celebrate your success.

Inflatable:

UK Running events organise a number of inflatable objects to make your way around in this 5km (and 10km options available) obstacle race. 10 giant inflatables for negotiation. These events are held around the UK at a number of locations.

 Use your senses:

Use your senses is a fundraising event being held in London and Glasgow, this new event takes running 5km to a new level. Their sense stations will surprise your senses, you could find yourself experiencing a taste challenge, or running into a sea of scented bubbles, or enjoying a harmonious choir.

This new event is yet to be reviewed but has a lot of promise to be an excellent event. If you take part, do leave a review for others to see and decide on giving this a go.

Glow in the park:

VOTwo were founded in 2004 and have organised triathlons, duathlons, trail running challenges and running races, open water swims and many more events. They have a number of events around the UK this year offering something very different; Glow in the Park.

This event provides a 5km race with light showers and a party atmosphere. As you progress around the course you get more of a glow, in the foam zone, the UV paint blast zone – getting your fair dousing of powder and the groovy time-tunnel. This event is open to all abilities for you to run, walk, jog, dance.

Blackpool Music Run:

Blackpool Music Run promises to be a fun family event with 9 stages, 20 acts and artists including a finishers festival to provide entertainment once the event is complete. This year’s headline act is Union J.

This chip timed 10k and 2k race offers medals for all finishers and refreshments and they encourage anyone to walk, jog, run or dance your way around their course.

This is a brand new event so no reviews yet!!
