What no Medal

BRUTAL Windmill Hill

A very authentic race. Staff were pleasant and there was a great atmosphere. The route was challenging and fun, well marshalled. Really disappointed that there was no finisher medal at the end and think its definitely worth considering for the future.

All in all had a great day and now looking at the others in the race series.

Excellent Trail Running

This was my first time running a Brutal 10 race and I will definitely be back for more.

The course was challenging with steep climbs and river crossings, very well marked up, with marshalls at key points, excellent organisation, and extremely friendly throughout.

All in all a very positive and enjoyable experience while pushing me very hard.

A little disappointed

Whilst it was a very scenic 5k, it certainly didn't live up to it's name!  Disappointing that there was no water included in the 5k route.

Also very long queues for the toilets before the start.

Well organised, well signed and well supported - just not as challenging as I was hoping for lol

A Beautiful 10K

The race course was never boring. It was a constant running up and down the soft trail tracks. The three river crossings was the highlight of the race. It could have been made more interesting if there was an obstacle or a boat on the river so that runners have to swim under it.

Due to lack of rain, not much mud on the trail, which some might count as a blessing while some more hardcore runners might not find it challenging enough. Yeah, those insane mofos.

All in all, the race was extremely well managed, well sign posted, helpful marshalls, lovely trail tracks with some steep hills and the entry fee cost only a few shekels which will not burn a deep hole in your pocket.

Verdict: A brilliant trail race for beginners and more experienced runners alike. A strong thumbs up from me.

5km was a lovely dry trail run

When I originally planned to sign up to this event it was a 2 lap route up the road. I had it in my head that I wanted to race it, always having run  with friends before. So this new 5km route down the road was not the same, and not as brutal as I believe the 10km was, but it was a lovely run in the woods, some fast sections and some watch your feet sections and a few hills thrown in. Raced it i did, and only went a came in as the first female!!

My Favourite Brutal

BRUTAL Windmill Hill

I love the Windmill Hill Brutal event. If you want deep mud this isn't the Brutal you're looking for as this one is fast and dry on twisty technical wooded trail (mind those roots!) with a seemingly endless series of short sharp hills - up and down and up and down like a roller coaster. The only respite from this is a flat 1/2km along the edge of the canal at the half-way point but then just when you think you've recovered enough to finish the race it's in and out of the chest-deep water three times to really drain your energy reserves for the final few kilometers.

Organisation was impeccable as always. Finding and collecting your number is quick and easy, with free key and bag drop. The end of the race brings the customary reward of a Battle Oats bar, a banana and cup of water or squash. No medals at Brutal - with off-road running this good you don't need them (and remember how cheap Brutal is compared with other off-road/OCR events).

One of my favourite Brutal courses

I ran most of the Brutal events last year and Windmill Hill remains one of my favourite courses.

The mix of fast technical sections and the signature Brutal extreme hill climbs here are really well balanced and a few cooling water crossings are welcome. Fewer bottlenecks than on some of the other courses too.

You are running on uneven ground with some loose downhill surfaces at points so it's never going to score high on the safety aspect but that said you know it's well marshalled so if you did have a fall you wouldn't be left to be eaten by a bear or anything.

Great Terrain

Nice friendly race. The course itself was fun and challenging. Lots of technical trails and ups and downs that mean you never quite get into a comfortable pace.  Really fun and great value for money.

Great off road race. Loads of hills and water.

Loved it. Have done several of the Brutal runs before. Love the series. Great route. As promised, lots of hills. The course was dry throughout, but the three canal crossings certainly made up for that. Great organisation as always from the Brutal team and marshals.

The best

This race had all of the natural obstacles you could wish for in an obstacle race - unders, overs, ups, downs, wet, muddy, flat, bumpy, nature at it's best...  Thoroughly enjoyed it and will definitely do it again :-)

Excellent Course

BRUTAL Windmill Hill

This was my first Brutal run. I went with two friends from work who had already completed one in February.

Right from the start, the whole process was fun. Easy registration, friendly marshalls and a great atmosphere. Good warm up and prompt start

The course itself was amazing. Challenging in places and great fun in others! Lots of mud to dive into and the two river crossings which were above my chest (I'm 5'4") were brilliant .

The location was easy to find and set in a beautiful part of the country.  Being a Townie, you forget the beauty of the countryside.

You know it's going to be muddy and wet but knowing that, you might as well throw yourself into the spirit of the event.

Everyone was friendly and helped others around the course. Lots of support from the marshalls on the way round

The technical tee shirts were good quality for£10 and let's face it, we all love a race tee shirt!

All in all, a good morning running through the forest. I will definitely be back next year and I'm already looking for my next trail run.

great race - fast course for a brutal

Great race. Well organised and good price as brutal always are! It's a warmer race, less mud and water than others so a nice fast course. Still plenty of hills though!

Another excellent Brutal Course

This is the second brutal course I have completed this year. I found the climbs to be considerably steeper and found myself using my hands several times to help get up. The course included two (normally three) river crossings which were excellent fun.

All in all, an extremely well organised professional event and I will be running it again next year.
