This popular race is especially good for those looking for a supportive event for their first ultra within easy reach of London.
As with all of our events, everything is taken care of at the Chiltern Challenge so you can focus on the experience! We’ll provide transfers from the station, free parking, free photos, changing facilities and heaps of tea and cake.
Chiltern Challenge was my first Ultra and promotes itself as beginner friendly. The course is near 32 miles of beautiful trails, taking in parts of the infamous Ridgeway and other chiltern trails. It is simple to navigate with easy to follow markings and several well stocked CPs with excellent marshalls who really look after you. Some interesting ups and down along the way make the course challenging but well within my capability.
Awesome medal and vest at the finish and a certificate to commemorate my first Ultra was a lovely touch.
Got to say this is one of my favourite events.

An amazing day though a little more painful than expected with dodgy shoulder!

And yes, I would do this race again in a heartbeat!

Ultras can be terrifying... so when picking my first I went for the following:
The Chilterns Ultra ticked all those boxes. Never once did I have to look at my map, and there were marshalls in places that could be considered 'tricky bits' to assist you along the way. The checkpoints were about 10km apart, which broke up the route very well into manageable chunks. They were also well stocks with sweet and savoury, with marshalls refilling your bottles and bladders for you.
The start/finish was at a school, so lovely facilities including toilets and showers! They also offered shuttle service to and from the train station (its walkable, but one less thing to worry about!)
Kickass medal, and you get a certificate if it's your first ultra. Amazing volunteers, marshalls and all round great atmosphere. Even the rain could not dampen our spirits!
