The organisation and logistics were of course up to the usual high Mysportingtimes standard, and event staff, marshals and competitors as friendly and supportive as always.

The courses for the 10k and 10 mile races take in great countryside from the banks of the River Thames, with sudden vistas across the fields, and some lovely bits of single track through the woods as well as quiet country lanes. There are some short(ish) sharp climbs and some swooping descents.

One of the most innovative things is that both 10k and 10 mile runners start at the same time and run much of the same route, with the shorter race just taking two shortcuts on the way. Faster ten mile runners can offer encouragement to the same 10k runner several times. It makes the whole event feel very inclusive. Worth noting that although the trails are narrow in a few places, overtaking was never an issue. The winning time for the 10 mile was just under the hour this year, while some runners took nearly twice as long.

With a fab medal, mulled wine and mince pie at the finish line, as well as chip timing, massage and running kit on sale, this race is already firmly in the Classic category.
