← Surrey Half Marathon

The quality of this race has been consistently good since it's initial running in 2014. I had a couple of issues last year with the start pens however it appears that these had been rectified this year simply by making the start area easier to get in to. There's loads going on in the race area to keep you busy and normally enough toliets, although the queues did seem bigger than usual this year.

Course-wise this is definitely one to enter for a PB. It's virtually flat but there are enough inclines to break up the monotony of flat running without making it difficult. The reasonably long (around 4m) out-and-back section is pretty boring but otherwise it's a really nice course and there is the odd person dotted around the course to keep you going.

The drinks stations are sensibly-spaced, although being the sort of person that only takes on a mouthful of water half way around (and being reasonably near the front) I can't really comment on what they're like later in the day.

The crowds towards and around the finish line are always good and the PA announcer and finish area marshalls are always enthusiastic as well. The dead-straight finish along the leisure centre driveway is great for a sprint finish if you've got it left!

All-in-all it is towards the more expensive end of half marathon entry fees, but it's a good event, definitely worth doing (especially if you're after a PB) and in all honesty you really could do much worse for the money.
