While this was my first time racing this event, it is a local race for me and covers some of my usual training routes. I've also been lucky to race in some stunning locations, so this wasn't exceptional for me.

After last week's summery temperatures, I was disappointed to see lows of 4 C forecast for this morning. It was a chilly morning, but the sun shone throughout!

I was able to pick up the race pack yesterday afternoon, so I didn't feel as rushed in the morning. We had a queue to get into transition & get marked, but this moved quickly & efficiently. Transition was well layed out, with lots of space between the bike racks & good space between each bike as well.

The organisers briefed each wave before setting off for the swim. The swim course was well marked out with visible buoys, and sightin was made easier because of the lead person on a paddle board. The exit was really steep, but the helpers did a good job of pulling everyone out of the water.

we had a short run, on grass, to transition, and debating how many layers to wear to avoid getting cold. Luckily the sun had started warming things up, so I stuck with the arm warmers. There were lots of marshalls lining the path out of the park & on to the bike course, which was one 20km loop. The course was well sign-posted & the marshalls were great at all the junctions. There were a few good hills on the course, but also long flat stretches to build up speed. The bike section finishes with a long straight downhill stretch before returning to the park. There are several stretches of bumpy road surface, but that is common in this area.

Entry & exit from T2 were quick & easy. The run is a flat 2 lap loop of the park. I seem to remember entering transition again to start the second lap, so this may have been more difficult for the first waves, if people were moving with bikes, but the run exit & bike exit were at opposite ends of transition.

There was one water station shortly after exiting T2, which we went past twice. The run course was, flat, easy & well sign-posted.

A great finish with lots of cheering & fresh fruit which tasted great after the race.

A great local race, several spectators commented on the great atmosphere.
