Brent Knoll MT race 2017

Brent Knoll Race

A good club race and last event of the Somerset series. The course starts off pretty flat, out across fields and track before winding its way up to the top of Brent Knoll Hill, savouring the 360 views of Somerset, before dropping back down and retracing the route back to the finish line.

Two Bays Tough Ten Challenge 2018

Two Bays Tough Ten Challenge

Having ran this race for the past two years, this was my first in club colours for Weston A.C. Being a local event, it had the added benefit of being able to collect race numbers at our club race a few days before and help reduce costs.

Conditions were perfect and the sun was still shining despite the cold temperature. This helped bring out more supporters and encouragement along the route.

The course itself is a 50/50 split of road and trail, starting under the Grand Pier on Weston-super-Mare's main beach, before snaking around the coastal road to Kewstoke and along Sand Bay, before climbing up to the headland and back down.

The course is relatively flat, saving the main hills for miles 7-9. This is where the race gets its 'Tough' name from, starting with a steep road climb before entering Weston Woods and a steady 3/4 mile climb to the hilltop. Throw in some mud, plenty of local support and some rough terrain before a nice downhill section back to sea level and a sprint finish along the beach and the challenge is complete.

Whilst the water stations are basic and the race HQ gets a little crowded as people prolong stepping out into the cold, the overall event is definitely great value for money, well supported and challenging for all abilities.

A must for everyone's February race calendar!

Sodbury Slog 2017

Easy Runner Sodbury Slog

Being fortunate enough to get a place for this race and having heard so much about its famous 'Pig Trough' and 'Sheep Dip' water features, I was looking forward to taking part.

Taking place on remembrance Sunday and having the last stand played on the bugle before the start added to the pre-race build up.

The start was a little chaotic but as soon as the race was under way, the field of runners soon spread out, that was until the first water feature of bog, mud and more mud.

The challenging terrain, hill climbs, mud and water features all added to an entertaining experience and one well worth trying.

The stylish race t-shirt more than adequately replacesd the traditional race medal, with good race HQ facilities too.

Bridgwater Bolt 10k - 2017

Bridgwater Bolt 10k

This was my first race in official team colours for Weston Athletic Club and a memorable one due to running my fastest ever 10km time.

The race was well organised with a nice family atmosphere and relatively flat course.

Weston Athletic Club Prom Run series 2017/18

Having joined the club in 2017 and run the last two races of the previous series, I was keen to sign up for the 2017/18 event. An excellent race series, well attended by both club and fun runners. The course is flat and fast giving plenty of opportunity to run fast, providing the wind stays low.

Oldbury Power 10 miler

Oldbury Power 10 Miler

Despite the wet conditions, the race organise put on a good event, with the course being flat and fast. It was certainly a good warm-up race ahead of the Great Bristol Half. The course was well marshalled and all of whom were encouraging. The local support was good considering the conditions. The only minor criticism would be the race IS being a little crowded but the provision of an outdoor marquee helped create some additional space to stay warm and dry.
