Generally pretty disorganised, no one at the race seemed to know what was going on or where anything was. Briefing inaccurate with aid stations not having what was announced (no coke, no gels etc).
Bike was short by 12/13km, run short by a 1km. Not the nicest area and water quality was pretty poor (near sewage pipes etc).
Safe to say I won't be coming back as I've generally had good experiences of challenge races.

Just realised this is my 12th 70.3 and this was a very well organised 1st race for Portugal 70.3
Swim could do with an improvement, not sure the australian exit was entirely necessary and some of the anchored boats could have been moved pre-race.
Absolutely loved the bike, very fast and flat first 50km. Downside of that were the huge drafting packs that I could see as I was on my way back after the turnaround. Awesome set of climbs which weren't too challenging and beautiful set of descends. Moto GP circuit was ok, surprisingly challenging with short climbs and being very exposed to the wind.
Everyone was expecting a flatish run but this was in no way shape flat! Some good support esp in the centre of town.
Most disappointing things about this race:
Food in the finish tent: barely any plastic place (I finished 21st overall and they seem to be all gone), distinctly average food
Awards ceremony: all guests were being charged 20 euros to come in whether or not they were having dinner. They were also only accepting cash and quite rude about the whole affair. To make matters worse, dinner was poor! Rolled out the finisher tent food again and very basic meat/bread rolls. There were free beers but no other choice in drinks so very expensive ticket for guests! Really think Ironman could give at least one guest entry to the ceremony to watch their other halves, quite a disappointing end to what was actually a really well run race.

Gorgeous race to do and very old school. Swim was pretty standard although kayakers got the route wrong on the two lap course (organisers were pretty upset and didn't hide behind the mistake so kudos). Bike is a good one (extra 6.5km on the bike), relatively rolling and sunday traffic, animals on the whole behaving themselves. Run was brutal, no flat parts at all but all part of the charm! Would go back!

Entered last minute, decent event! Good logistics, nice and straight forward. Route was ok, mix of surfaces some of which aren't great and one/two corners are little ropey. They've made a big deal about being an accurate course but the run was short by 120m and the half was short by 250m which is a little frustrating. Would still recommend this race.

This was a relatively last minute entry as I was looking to combine a holiday with one final race for the season. I've previously lived/raced in Asia and was impressed with the general organisation of this race compared to other races. Locals were all supportive of the race and cycling in the build up, we felt completely safe. The swim was beautiful as you can expect in Asia and the bike course is a very honest one with only slightly less climbing then IM Bolton. I went into this race more concerned of running in the heat and this bike course definitely beat me up! A negative was the isotonic drinks at aid stations (I think it was lucazade) was pretty horrible (very artifical tasting) and the bottles handed out very small (500ml). Considering the heat, I'd have liked larger bottles. Run course was ok, parts by the airport very quiet making it challenging however the 2nd half in town with large amounts of supporters was great. Aid stations were super regular which was a great help!

I've raced half ironmans all over the world and a lot of them claim to be the toughest, exmoor is definitely up there. Everyone talks about the bike but the run is equally tough! Ironman branded race but still feels local and had a great family feel to it!
