My 4th Bys Vycken event as a competitor. And I certainly wasn’t disappointed!
Superb organisation from entering to finishing.
David even prepared for the weather! 2 gazebos to shelter in and a high sided van provided added shelter.
The course was amazing. Fabulous scenery and plenty of mud!!!
The Marshalls on the course were helpful, supportive and encouraging.
The photographer was brilliant and very quick to upload.
I loved the finish (even the nasty slope at the end!)
The very unique medal and the welcome from Dave and Sally ensured the event was just perfect.
Thank you xxx

I loved every part of this event.
From booking to finishing.
Everything was perfect (except a nasty chesty cold)
The Route was amazing. Seeing St Michael’s mount from the halfway point (almost) was beautiful and encouraging.
Everything we needed was explained and confirmed.
Infully recommend this event and will be eager to do it again.
The medal is the best one I’ve had.
Thank you to everyone involved.

I always thought I wasn't a good enough runner to do this event. I am not the usual runner. I am too heavy and like to talk far too much when running!!! Last year I used the 11 mile route as a training run for another event. I then ran a few other trail events. Somehow or another I found myself signing up for the Red Rat, I didn't realise it was 3 weeks after the Snowdonia Half Marathon! But hey ho, it was all good training!!!
Once on site at Porthpean, everything was really well managed; Kit check, registration and bag drop just happened followed by the race briefing and getting on the coaches. The atmosphere was fantastic. Watching the convoy of buses wind there way around the lanes was a great way to get into the spirit of the event. Runners talked to each other and everyone was friendly. We then walked the short distance to the start line and queued to use the portaloos for the final time. We took a few photos and waited for the start. I felt very humble watching the Plague and the 32 mile runners coming through the check points, that really helped me to stay clam and not worry about the task ahead. If these awesome people could keep running with a smile and a kind word than I could do this.
Then off we went, watched by the magical eye in the sky. I felt really confident. (That is quite rare for me!!). All of the runners were respectful and supportive. The marshalls and photographers along the route were great, all full of support and encouragement. And then came the checkpoints, oh my, that was a first! I felt like royalty!! And who thought flat Coke would taste so good!!
The crowning glory for me, was seeing Andrew Ferguson at the top of the path at the final part of the route clapping and giving encouragement.
Thank you to everyone involved. A truly great event. I am so glad I entered this event.
If I can do it, so can you!!

What a wonderful event.
Thank you Dave and Sally once again for organising a brilliant event.
Initially I thought it was too far to travel 'just' for a 5k run. I take that back completely.
You organised it to a 't'.
The start line was easy to find. Your unique signage was perfect.
Everything about the run was great. The run on the beach was challenging but also fun!
The route you chose was absolutely beautiful.
The marshalls were so lovely and encouraging.
Thank you for everything, particularly the awesome medal and bib number. No one will be able to replicate them.
Please can take a dip in that lovely hotel pool next time!!!
Of course, the registration ladies were the best!!!

The registration ladies were amazing indeed. Thank you for being such a fantastic part of this day. Without you we'd be buggered ;)

I have just completed this event with 2 other friends. It was not easy. It was exactly as David described 'bleddy 'ard'!!! But, we did it. And we did it well within the cut off time.
We ran when we could, which was mainly for the first 11 miles. The terrain covered just everything it could! It was everything the Cornish coastal path could be; grass track, mud track, stones, mud, muddy puddles, big stones, boulders, steps. The Cornish weather certainly came out to play! Anyway, we did it. The Marshalls were fantastic, supportive all the way. David helped me in every way he could. He provided moral support, advice on the kit list and he was completely honest about the route. He gave regular updates about the route conditions and plenty of humour along the way.
If you are considering this event. It is a must. Just do it. But most importantly, the medal is awesome!
