This event is a fast flat race which provides an ideal opportunity to improve your PB. The swim is in a very calm and clear lake, the bike is a flat and easy to navigate course and the run is a three lap flat course on road and grass around the lake.
Love this race. I have done it 3 times now and each year it gets better. The organising team are really helpful, especially facilitating registration at unofficial times. The pre race familiarisation day is great for those new to a middle distance tri - very friendly, well paced (and free!).
Very well organised by a friendly team with good communications in advance of the event.
really good value for money, very well organised and friendly. Lots of support on the run course
Good race - not too "elitist" - plenty of ordinary competitors.
A really well run middle distance tri. You're given plenty of info in both emails and the race pack, and Graeme is always quick to reply to emails and requests. The setting at lake 32 is great with a well run transition area, staffed by the fantastic support team. Graeme makes sure that both the bike and run route are well kept and safe, whether it is trimming hedges, filling in potholes or even fending off killer badgers (2015). Speaking of the route, it's PB friendly given that it's mostly flat, with only one hill on the bike course! There is camping available for those coming from further away, the aid stations are really well stocked and there is a really friendly atmosphere to the whole event. I'm toying with the idea of the 226 next year, so I'll be looking to use the 113 as a potential warm-up!
I signed up for the Cotswold 113 as my first middle distance triathlon, after hearing so many great reviews from previous years. Everything about the event lived up to it's reputation... a flat fast course, friendly marshalls, beautiful location and reasonable entry fee. I attended the familiarisation day 3 weeks before the race, which was great for settling any nerves and getting to see the course before race day. Communications leading up to the race were informative and the race briefing was very helpful. The swim is in a lovely clear lake, the bike course is very flat except for two hills and the run is on muddy trails around the lakes. The torrential rain was the only downside to the day! Thank you to the 113 team and marshalls for putting on such a great event.
Thank you for organising this race..
Completed the race on june 12th 2016 alongside my Fiancee and was very impressed.
A very frindly atmosphere greets participants in the early morning. The marshals couldnt have been better or more supportive. The whole day was a very wet affair, resulting in the rescue crews working flat out. The aid stations were fully stocked with sweet and salty foods as well as the gels and electrolyte bottles, even as I came round towards the end!
A brilliantly organised race over one of the flatest and fastest courses out there.
Well this is the first time I have done this event in 3 years last time was back in 2013. Which I have seen it really grow in size and popularity.
The Cotswold's is a great spot to race. Swimming in a warmish lake is great.
This was my first triathlon at any distance and a superb introduction to the sport. The organisation was spot on with very informative communications starting from a few months before the event.I thought the course was very beginner friendly with a mostly flat & fast bike course, and the run was about 50% trail which I'm sure my legs appreciated, even though the course was getting a little muddy from the heavy rain on the day.The Aid stations were well stocked with every manner of sweet & salty/savoury food available to keep me moving till the end and there was great support from locals and the many marshals who endured the horrendous weather on the day.Value for money was also excellent when you consider the organisers also put of a free familiarisation day in the weeks ahead of the event to guide groups on the course.I'd already entered their event in August as I new I'd be itching to beat my first time, and now I'm feeling even more positive about that event. I can see that this event is likely to be a regular feature on my calendar.
Slightly revised (extended) bike course. Still flat with only one real hill on both of the two laps.
Absolutely drenched on bike but support fantastic from marshalls especially. Getting parked, setting up transtition and finding the loos in time a huge rush because all supposed to leave transition by 5.45am. Could really do with a loo on ride- easy for the guys! Had a problem with toes on run, eventually given a plaster- would be good if first aid kit more available. Cheering was fab at the end but virtually nothing left to eat- need to finish quicker to get the goodies! However, would do this again so many thanks.
The team putting on this race are exceptionally friendly and go out of their way to make all athletes feel comfortable. This was my first 113 distance and I couldn't have chosen a better company to go with. Lots of emails before hand meant I knew exactly what to expect.
Overall I enjoyed this race. I've done quite a few IM branded events and this "smaller" company do manage to pull off a great race at a fraction of the cost.
Graeme runs a well organised event, it retains the friendly feel that can be lost with really big events, yet had 1000 entries so no small event in its own right. Course is lovely as is the area, the run in and around the lakes and villages are beautiful. The bike is a good mix of fast and flat with a cheeky little climb to wake you up and some tight bends to negotiate which can be a hazard if wet. Really pleased I did this event, would definitley enter again and if I couldn't get in the good news is they run it again in August so twice the chnace to enter. You could do a lot worse than enter this event either as a first time middle distance or as an experienced racer.
Completed in 2013, Marshalled in 2014, Completed in 2015 and 2016.This event shows that you don't need an IM brand to create a race that is fun as well as competitive. 2016 was lousy weather and the Marshals had to work hard. Many thanks to all of them. They were everywhere!A slightly new bike route makes the course safer, and adds those few miles that were previously missing. Was it perfect? Nearly. Was it the same price as IM Brand? Not even close.
