Testing trail run along a scenic route

With the start being just 5mins from where I live, this is a race that always features on my race calendar. The organisation is excellent with lots of info and communication from the organisers both by email and social media in the run up to the race. The race HQ is in one of the halls where you can also leave your bags. It’s a non-secure baggage area but there’s plenty of people still around in the hall getting the tea and cake ready whilst the race is on!

Quicker than you might think

Much of the course is on canal towpath so is actually fast and flat for 8-9 miles. There is one tough hill, but get over that and you have a nice gradual descent through the country park over 3-4 miles with a fast finish down the canal.

Getting Dirty

Dirt Half Challenge

Before I booked I had visions of a trail run being off road and very muddy. But I thought I would give it a shot. I registered and was surprised how quickly I got my race pack through. I got there early on the day(glad I did)

Friendly and Fun Challenge

I love the flat first 6 miles along the tow-path...then it gets tough! You don't get a chance to grow bored in the 2nd half and it's a bit of a relief to return to the tow-path for the final 2 miles.  Beautiful course and very friendly race crew. Organisation is top-notch.  I wore road shoes but felt like I was going to fall over quite a bit in the muddy sections. Full fat coke at the end was a welcome surprise.   Medal is quality.

Dirt-Half Challenge - Amazing and Beautiful Half Marathon Race

Dirt-Half was diffnatley a challenge, but beautiful scenery running next to the canal, my favourite bit is running through the woods looking at all beautiful autumn trees really lovley. This race is for all abilities if you can run that distance. I found the variations on the route keep me going. Footwear I recomend trainers not trail shoes. Really impressed with the local support well organised race. Loved It!!!

My favourite half marathon ever!

Dirt Half Challenge

I have done this race for the last 4/5 years and it never disappoints! Well organised, friendly family feel event with a beautiful course along the canal and through forests and trails. Stunning! A few hills thrown in to have some fun on but a great mixed terrain event. Suitable for all levels of runner from your first half marathon to experienced competitive runners. Water stations are well manned by both local people and running clubs with the best support going! Superbly marked course with tree roots spray painted in the wooded areas to further help. Great warm reception at the end with coffee, cake and presentation ceremony. All in all the best half marathon you could wish for.

Dirt half delight

What a race, third time for me and I still adore the annual challenge of the flat out tow paths and slippery woodland trail, swampy fields and a just a little climbing.

Tough course but good run

At the start there is quite a lot of path running along side the canal then about 5miles in the hill starts. It’s a long slow climb to the top and then in to the beautiful woods after 10miles it’s a flatter run to the finish. This is the first trail half I have ran and I must say it’s tough but I really enjoyed it. Would love to do it again next in 2018

Great local event with great medal

Completed the race the first time this year and was a great local event. It was well organised and information leading up to the race was sufficent. There was plenty of marshalls. One down point was that there wasnt enough dirt as it was mainly on towpath(tarmac) and roads. However when you do get into the woods, it was cracking fun

Great countryside half

Most of the course is away from built up areas which is great for enjoying the scenery of Bedfordshire.  That said, if you’re a runner who likes a crowd to cheer you through this will be a disappointing course.  Aside from the brief stint through the village of Great Brickhill there is little other civilisation.

Amazing but Brutal

The first time I’ve done this race, but definitely not the last! This was only my second half but it totally lived up to and beyond the legends I’d heard. A beautiful course, amazing and supportive marshals and locals, easily navigational and a couple of heliishly horrible HILLS thrown in for good measure! I would highly recommend anyone seeking a tough yet enjoyable multi terrain half marathon, and well done to the organisers, you did a great job!!! See you next year!

Best Autumn trail race.

I only race about 3 times a year and since 2015 this is  my "must-do" no. 1 race! It is a great mixture of flat and attractive tow-path running and challenging, scenic trail running. I will be entering Dirt Half Challenge 2018 as soon as entries open!
