cold... wet.....windy... and hilly !
3rd time running this - just love the pig shapped course, the pig medal, the bacon butties after and of course the pig of the hil for the first half of the run.
This was the first time I’ve done Hogsbackroadrace. I know the organisers are a friendly bunch, and I had tried to do some of the summer events, but couldn’t make the evening runs. I was already looking forward to taking part in this event, and then I was asked to Pace, a no brainier for me.
First point was that the race went ahead so top points for that, lots of other events fell to the weather over this weekend.
this was my first run pacing and boy it wasn’t the easiest race to start with.
A fantastic event. This was me third year taking on the challenge and despite the weather it was another superb morning.
This was the second time I completed this event and it was, well, ok. Obviously you cannot blame the organisers for the weather and all the mud, but I think some sort of cover against the rain would be welcome - after all the organsiers encouraged the early arrival...
This year was my second time for this one. Last year was a bright sunny frosty morning; cold and wet this time! Nonetheless a large cheerful turnout, quick registration, bag drop, water station + jelly babies, and local people encouraging us on at various points along the route....and the excellent Hog-shaped medal and correspondingly shaped Garmin/Strava course!!
The weather was awful, but we all turned out in force. Runners were advised to arrive by 7.30am (to get parked easily) for a 9am start which was a bit of a pain, but seeing the others parked further away struggling to get out of the mud it all became worth it.
I said last year I would be back! and I was!! HUGE thanks to all the marshals’ for sticking it out in the horrible rain!
What a way to celebrate a Birthday.Up at 5:30...On the road by 6:10Oh yeah, and it was rain/snow and dark!Must love running
Weather was abysmal - very cold, rain, windy - just one of those things. BUT - it was forecast and there was no shelter at all at the start or finish. Wondered if one of the buildings could have been opened up or some cover provided? Plenty of space to put up some gazebos.
well organised and very well run event. Superb marshalls
What a great race - bit of a random distance but it was fun to push myself a bit further than a 10K without having to go for a half. The USP (and name sake) of this race is the Hog Back hill - the first 5 km is a brutal slog up the biggest hill the area has to offer. It really ups the challenge level! As with all aat events, the atmosphere was friendly, the marshals were helpful and encouraging. There were supposedly pacers but I didn't see them on route, but there were flags at the start displaying paces so people could line up in speed order. That was a nice touch that avoided the usual manic overtaking game at the begining of most races. All in all it was a great event. Throughly enjoyed it. Big thanks to the organisers!
Despite the rain and the mud, great atmosphere! Thanks marshalls for cheering us up!
on what was probably the wettest, coldest day this is still one totally awesome race! Despite being wet and cold the marshalls’ encourages everyone up those hills.
Have done this many times before, and this one was by far the worst weather - cold and wet (pouring down for 90 minutes before the start), but eased off to almost nothing for the run itself (great organisation that). Love the route, shame you couldn't see too much today, but it's still a good one - mix of road, and fire trail type path. AAT organisation great as ever, super friendly and informal, but very well organised - love their events
Pros: lovely start/finish venue
Appalling weather conditions today and a smaller field of runners, but we still had a great time. Good hilly course, lovely long shallow downhill sections where you can really get your speed up to recover from the climbs. Excellent marshals and unique medal. I would probably suggest the gravel/track sections are more than 10%of the course though, and today in the bad rain they were a bit more tricky to manage in road shoes, but that's me being really picked. Loved it, I'll be back x
It nearly rained althroughut but I still enjoyed it. I'm binning my muddy trainers though :).
