About the race

Duathlon Rockingham

Duathlon Rockingham is back! At Rockingham Circuit, Europe's fastest circuit. (based at the same venue as the 2015 British Elite Duathlon Championships)

Choose Sprint or Standard distance - THIS IS NOW A NON DRAFTING RACE. You are allowed tro draft fellow athletes on the bike element, but you are not allowed bikes with aero bars or disc wheels (similar to the Brownlee brothers races).

The course has a gentle climb on one corner but overall, it is very flat. With smooth tarmac, and free of traffic and potholes, the only thing to focus on is your personal goal! On the sprint distance the  5k run covers 1 lap of the inner circuit and the bike takes in 8 speedy laps for the Sprint, and 16 laps for the Standard race, of the oval with a final 5km run lap before crossing the finish line under the main grandstand.

Duathlon Rockingham will have the following:

Chip timing

Secure transition

Regular water stations on the run

Fully marshalled

Bespoke finishers medal

Trophies for 1st, 2nd, 3rd man & woman - Sprint & Standard

Trophies for 1st, 2nd, 3rd team - Sprint & Standard

Race merchandise

Race photographer

Sports Therapist for post race massage

Sheltered venue near race start & finish with hot food & drink & CAKE!

Full medical provision

Ideal for novice through to elite

The team consists of 2 or 3 members. If your team has 2 members, the first member will conduct both the run elements and the 2nd member will conduct the bike section. If your team has 3 members, 1 member EITHER conducts the 1st run, the bike or the final run. The team can consist of British Triathlon Federation members and non-members. Any non-members must pay their £5.00 Day Licence fee at registration on the day of the event.

Stay & watch or participate in Rockingham 10  - a 10k or 10mile race  - back for it's 3rd year at 1pm.

Rockingham first-timer

Efficient organisation and friendly staff and volunteers. This is a welcoming and enjoyable event for both serious competitors and recreational enthusiasts in s setting which presents its own challenges. The idea of a duathlon on s motor-racing circuit appealed to me and didn’t disappoint!

Less Horsepower, More Manpower

First time at Rockingham for the SBR Duathlon 2017 on November 5 - total enjoyment from (before the) start until (well after the) finish. Great atmosphere, great venue, great people and great organisation. The day was made even better by clear skies and bright sunshine - what more could you ask for??

Duathlon Rockingham

Well organised and small details count, quick registration, Bike and helmet stickers that peel straight back off (never underestimate this) , instant and quick provisional results, relaxed and friendly officials and Marshall’s, catering for the best and the first timers .... well done guys . Only one bit advice is have some interval markers for 5/10km, know you have multiple distances and races but you could display on same board or across a few boards clearly and simply.

Reply from the race organiser

Hi Giles - Thanks for your comments. Really good to know you enjoyed it. We had the 1-4 km boards in place (measured back from the finish line) & hoped that since the finish line was the same for 5k & 10k - it would be a simple calculation to double up. They were on small bright orange boards. Kind regards

First duathlon

I really should check how far away races are before I enter.

The lovely 2.5 hour drive down the A1 wasn't the best preparation.

However the logistics, registration, racking, briefing were really well organised.

The course is flat and fast.

10k (fastest of the year) dine. Onto the bike. Omg the wind and cold bit hard. Let's not discuss me doing 17 Laps instead of 16!

5k finish was well supported by freezing cold marshals, who, despite the cold, were brilliant all day.

T-shirt and medal are brill.

I'd do it again but mat stay over.

Awesome venue

Duathlon Rockingham

yet again SBR did it again!,, great venue, great race what's not to like? Amanda and Jason do a great job, some great marshals who were full of beams despite poor weather looming.....wind battered us on the bike but what can you do about the weather :) one point which was disappointing was the registrations of the runs crossing over the duathlon awards, I think it was partly due to everyone taking shelter in the garages, but a longer gap would have been better. Still this was a small glitch that I'm sure will be avoided next time...fully recommend

Great venue for closed circuit duathlon

Duathlon Rockingham

This was my first standard distance duathlon. The circuit was easy to find and parking was free in the paddock area. Registration was easy to find with plenty of chairs and tables laid out. Staff we're friendly and helpful. Plenty of toilet facilities. Marshall's were present at every station and transition, all were supportive and cheering us on even when the weather turned cold. There was a little bit of confusion when finishing as the 10km and 10 mile runners we're registering and the registration area was packed out but in fairness it was starting to rain. Finishers medal is very nice and although my chip times weren't available on the day, SBR events kept me informed of when they we're ready. Overall a very enjoyable event.

Rockingham 10 Miles

Not an attractive course but you are running round a race track so that's a given. Despite the weather this was an enjoyable event with cheerful marshalls encouraging everyone.

Always appreciate it when photos are free to download as well.

After a windy 2015 event meant the cycling was cancelled, 2016 proved a success!

Great venue / Great people / Great day!!

Thinking of doing a first Duathlon in 2017 then look no further than SBR Rockingham!!

You'll not regret it!!

Great race

This is a fantastic race if you don't mind a bit of cold weather/wind/rain!! All adds to the fun.

I deferred my entry from last year and although there was a slight hiccup with entry to this year regarding the deferral it was quickly resolved via email 3 days before the event!!! 10/10 for that!

It's a great course that feels extremely quick!!

Look forward to racing here again next year.

Safest race of the year

Extremely well organised event yet again from SBR.

Marshalls as usual were great, all of these folks deserve a massive thanks as they are the saviours of our races.

Run course was simple to navigate, and flat. The 8 lap cycle (sprint) is on the oval, so no chance of getting lost, surface is fantastic, no pot holes!

Parking was in the inner paddock and free. Registration is a stones throw away from car park in one of the pit garages. Transition, start and finish are in the pit lane next to registration.Great having an indoor area for competitors to gather before and after race especially with the cold weather, and rain later in the day.

Overall a great time,in a friendly atmosphere and a traffic free environment.

Duathlon Rockingham 2016

Great Event!

Just a couple of things that would help the race run smoother in future.

Firstly, a method of helping athletes competing in the Standard Duathlon to track the number of laps required for the cycling phase, as counting 16 laps of the same oval in combination with other commitments during the race led to confusion and some athletes unsure of how many laps they had completed.

Portable toilets designated on the route may be needed in future as when I went to the toilet during the cycling phase my timing chip got confused and therefore gave an inaccurate breakdown of my stages.

Great Race, I'll Be back Next Year

It's weird to reviewing a race that only part happened!  Due to VERY high winds the SBR team took the decision to cancel the Bike leg so we had a choice of a 5Km or 10Km Run.

The course is quite unique due to being held at a Motor Raceway and the bike leg was planned to be on the main oval, banked race circuit where as the run ended up being 2 5km laps of the inner race circuit. (If it had been a duathlon it would have been 1 lap run (5km) 8 laps of the outer circuit for the bike (19km) and 1run  lap of the inner circuit (5Km).

I could see that in the correct conditions this could be a blazing PB circuit.  Parking was right next to the start and finish in the inner paddoct and the pit garages were used to host registration, meeting up and preparation with the bike racking and transition being within the pit lane.

The race was well volunteered by friendly marshals and the medal was a good bespoke medal too.

Will i be back next year! YES but hopefully to do a full duathlon rather than just a run.
