Great to take part in the final Liverpool Rock n Roll 5k.
It's a great course, but lots on cobbles and uneven paving so lots to watch out for.
Great music too keep you going with support from crowds and marshals alike.
Now, it's never nice to need assistance, however after tripping and faceplating, the marshal radioed through for assistance before I even knew he was there. He then proceeded to ensure I didn't become a trip hazard for others.
Medical support second to none, really know their stuff and very gentle.
Not the intended way to see this one out but so well organised, everyone super helpful, supportive and friendly.
If it was to be back in Liverpool, it would be a must on the race calender!

Really sad to see this one go from the calendar, was the Sweeper, maybe they have bigger plans, but as was a music kind of inspired event, so Liverpool was it's natural home, well it could have been called the Beatles Half but I digress.
Along with the Manchester Marathon / Half Manchester, these for me are the best large events in that North West part of the UK, only Ealing in the south has giving me the same enjoyment on race day as this one always give me. Anyway.... The race.
You used to be able to park across from the water front, Council have changed the signs, so parking more problematic.
Course is more undulating than one would expect, however it is a lovely route, through places linked with the Beatles in the main, through China town and a number of lovely parks, before the final few miles down the river/sea front.... For once it was not blowing a storm on that bit.
Good qual medals, water, juice and gels on the aid stations, bananas and nut bars aplenty at the finish.
A few difficult to navigate sections, was difficult to work out which side we should have been running on the roads sometimes, however roads where fully blocked so no real issues in the half. Was a lovely team spirt at the back of the race.
All in all a lovely day out, offered something different to the other running events. Hope it comes back soon..... Or we all going to have to go too Madrid every year. For their RNR event.... 🙂

My first Liverpool R&R event and unfortunately their last. I'd deferred until Spring 2022 but decided to go for it as I'd not long done the Great North Run so felt my training was fairly up to scratch.
This was much more enjoyable than the GNR - great route (little hill near the begining but pretty much flat after that), great atmosphere, and supportive fellow runners. There was even a Beatles tribute band on the main stage - what more do you need when in Liverpool!
This made me feel so much better about running half marathons as a slower runner (after my not so great GNR experience) as I felt just as much a part of it as those at the front. It's a shame it's going and I hope a similar event takes its place and maintains the R&R legacy of providing a great weekend of inclusive running.

I ran the half marathon which sets off before the full marathon although due to having both events on the same day there were lots of people at the event village and start area which made things quite crowded. Parking can be an issue due to road closures and so I parked on the edge of the city centre and had about a 20 minute walk in. The route goes through various local parks and up Penny Lane which is nice, the stretch at the end along the Mersey path was a killer due to the head wind. Crowd support was great and having various bands playing around the route was good fun. There were plenty of freebies at the finish but no bag, I assume due to environmental reasons, so if you didn't use the bag drop you needed big hands or large pockets. The medal was nice but quite small for such a large well backed event.

This is a nice little warmup if you're there for the longer events throughout the weekend.
You get a little taster of the local sights around the race HQ, with the 5K finishing inside the arena itself with disco lights!
The medal is fun and well designed, in theme with the ones given out for the other events and contributes towards an extra medal for running multiple events.
A photographer awaits your exit from the arena and the marshalls were very good at helping everyone keep moving after the race finished.
