About the race

The Quest 40 mile solo or relay. Castle to Castle 10 mile coastpath run. The Knights Challenge 24 hour ultra

Choose to take part in The Quest, a 40 mile solo or pairs relay, The Castle to Castle, a 10 mile introduction to coastpath running or The Knights Challenge, an extreme 24hr coastpath ultra.

King Arthur’s home was at a place called Tintagel.

Here he built a castle, an impenetrable fortress, overlooking the ocean, on the most dramatic of coast lines.Arthurs brave knights carried out acts of chivalry, rescuing damsels in distress and fighting against strange beasts and they met at his round table. Under the guidance of his sorcerer Merlin, Arthur obtained “Excalibur” a magical sword from The Lady Of The Lake and with this weapon he vanquished many foes. They searched for lost treasures, such as the Holy Grail which they believed would bring them eternal life.

Did Arthur ever find the Grail ? Either way his legend comes alive with MudCrew’s new event for 2016. A 40 mile Ultra covering some of the most challenging coast path Cornwall has to offer including High Cliff – the highest point on the Cornish coast. Running either solo or as a relay pair you will be rewarded with some of the most spectacular running our county has to offer.

On your epic journey, seek the relics from the legend and bring them back to King Arthurs ancestral home at Tintagel Castle to complete….THE QUEST.

Castle to castle

The Quest

Fantastic race. I'm not fast and normally very near the back. Not pressure to finish in an elite time. The views and the company of the sweeper was great. As always a very well orginised event by Mudcrew. Proud to be a Mudcrew Runner

24 hour Knights Challenge

The Quest

this was my first attempt at a 24 hour event so I didn't know what to expect. The pre race information was great and highlighted everything we needed (and didn't need). The registration ran smoothly and there was an air of 'calm before the storm' amongst the 12 starters. The location is stunning, with probably the toughest section of coast path in Cornwall. 24 hours to cover a 2.5mile out and back course, covering almost 500 vertical steps on each lap....utterly insane! Unfortunately injury saw me out after only 6.5 hours (nearly 20 miles) but the race directors looked after me well, along with the Omega paramedic. I will definitely be back next year to attempt the challenge again.

Another Mudcrew winner

I did the 10 mile Castle to Castle (Tintagel to Boscastle and back) which I have walked before but never run and it didn't let me down, from the start on the bridge and up the steps it was tough (Not as tough as the 40 miler or the 24 hour knights challenge though). I totally got my dress wrong and overheated on the way to Boscastle.

Stunning scenery and a tough course but that is what you expect from Mudrew.

I would of liked to have done half of the 40 miles course but I couldn't find anyone to do it with me, maybe a 20 mile version in future years?

Good work again guys.

24 Hours and Lots of Steps!!

The Quest

It was hard to know what to expect from this inaugural running of the Knights Challenge, 24 hour endurance race.  Having done one 24 hour race before I was prepared for the time on my feet but didn't know how I would cope with the brutal nature of this course.

Well, it was a fabulous race and I cannot recommend it enough to those willing to take on the challenge. The scenery is awesome and spectacular with the added mystery surrounding Tintagel Castle where we came back to at the end of each lap. There were only a small number of competitors but we were constantly passing and crossing by each other as the laps progressed and a real camraderie developed.  Up at the front there was a real race going on but for myself I was intent on just surviving.  The special buckle for 100 miles went unclaimed this year and will be very hard for someone to meet.

The pre race info was excellent and the briefing told us all we needed to know.  The usual Mudcrew support was there but as we had to provide our own supplies we didn't get to sample the excellent aid stations that the other distances enjoyed (sadly!!).  All in all another triumph from Mudcrew.

Knights Challenge

The Quest

I entered the Knights Challenge and this is one race that lived up to my expectations and more. Super tough course and a real test of your mental and physical capability. This 24 hour race is unique and for that reason I will be back next year. The MudCrew guys were fantastic from start to finish and really made a hard 24 hours more bearable. I highly recommend this event to anyone looking for a challenge and the rules made it super fun.

VERY TOUGH BUT FANTASTIC CHALLENGE!!!

The Quest

This is the second time I have completed the 40 mile option of this race. It is certainly tough terrain, but if you are looking for a proper challenge with amazing scenery, well stocked checkpoints, encouraging marshalls and a superb bit of bling at the end, I would definitely recommend giving this race a go.

There are areas of the coast path that feel very solitary at times. The trails are slippery underfoot in places with loose slate and lots of steps. Sense of achievement at the end is out of this world!!

Brutally Simple

A stunningly simple format - keep going for 24 hours to and fro on a stunningly beautiful 2.5 mile stretch of north Corwall coastline. Minimal support needed, minimal navigation. Just 2 snags - stop for 10 minutes and you're out, and the flight of 203 steps at the far end (203 up and 203 down).

What's not to like.

Just one of 3 different events at the same venue with the same stunning scenery - pick the event that suits you best.

Another epic from the Mud Crew...

The Quest delivered the usual level of outstanding organisation that has become the trademark of arguably the best race outfit in the South West.

An epic coastal 40 miler with a testing amount of elevation, but with incredible views to take your mind off the challenging terrain. Awesome checkpoints stocked with everything you could possibly want to get you through, all delivered with the customary care that you get from Mud Crew volunteers - they really can't do enough for you, which is probably something to do with the majority coming from an ultra/running background themselves. Everything from the race instructions, the course marking, the suberb medical cover to the quality of the medal make this a 'must do' for any self respecting ultra runner who fancies a challenge with stunning scenary thrown in!

A Knight to Remember

Having loved the relay version of The Quest last year, I was keen to return to this stunning section of the coast path and it was great to see a 10 miler and 24 hour challenge added to the menu for the 2017 Quest weekend.

I signed up to the 24hr Knight's Challenge and Mud Crew were their usual great selves from registration to finish. The sense of fun is second only to the sense of safety at Mud Crew events and I would highly recommend the Quest to any trail running fans.

really enjoyed this event, it was beautiful course, it was a tough 10 miler, that really tested your endurance, Mudcrew events are always well organised, the food stations are well stocked, and the event organisers are really warm and friendly.

My favourite part of these events is the personally touch at the end, everyone is made to feel a hugh sense of pride when you get given that Well deserved medal .... Thank you all at Mudcrew x

Outstanding views!

The Quest

Hard hilly off road race on the north Cornish coast path. Varied underfoot with paths, steps, fields and more steps with an absolute killer of a start! Amazing views if you dare to take your eyes off the route! Fun atmosphere. Plenty of refreshments and snacks for salt and sugar replenishment! Super lovely medal! Definitely do it again next year... if my legs recover!

One tough event!

Having done this course as a relay pair last year I decided to try the whole thing - an easy decision, but very tough result!  An amzing course and the hardest one I haver ever completed but, as usual with MudCrew and trail running, the support from organisers, marshalls and aid station staff was phenominal, plus the bonus of support on the course from other runners. Well done Mud Crew on delivering another epic event.

Castle to Castle part of The Quest

C2C a 10 mile coast path run from Tintagel to Boscastle and back. Another brilliant Mud Crew event on the stunning South West Coast Path. The distance introduced this year is a great challenge for the not so experienced trail runners. It's a test of stamina and determination to conquer the terrain but the views are stunning, unique and set with the backdrop of the fabled King Arthur's Castle.

Mud Crew have again deliverd a slick event, great support, well stocked water stations and as every a very coveted MC medal. We came we conquered and we will be back next year!

The Quest 2017; sun burn, sickness and steps.

Beautiful, beautiful course.   If you want a lumpy as hell ultra that gives you a challenge this is the one for you.  Usual smooth and slick mud crew organisation.  Checkpoints and checkpoint staff, as is standard for mud crew, can't do enough for you.  And the medal is a corker.  Hated it at the time.  Loving it now.  Think that's the sign of a testing ultra.

Great first running of C2C

It was THE perfect day out there to appreciate Cornwall's sheer natural beauty. Well, when you weren't having to focus on where you were placing your feet on the more technical of the descents. It was a great day out, and superbly organised as far as inaugural events go!

Stunningly beautiful

The event was incredibly well organised and had superb aid stations. Everybody was really friendly and I had the most fantastic time. The hills, of which there were many, were very steep and I'm still having nightmares about those millions of steps. Having said that, it was the most stunningly beautiful course and within the first hour my long lost running mojo had returned. Thank you Mud Crew! I can't wait for next year!

The Quest 2016

This was the first running of The Quest, the Mudcrew always put on a fantastic event, they did not disappoint .

The course was very challenging , extremely so in many places , the area is very scenic although you'll need to keep focused on the trails many climbs and descents .

Checkpoints were very high quality with lots of choices both food & drink, the marshals were superb, helpful and a bit of fun too, all in all a must for those who like a challenge, 2017 will be even better no doubt 10/10

Brutal beauty

As a relay this was challenge enough; to complete the full course must have been the toughest!  Really enjoyed the typical Mudcrew organisation (nothing missed, totally professional set up) and then the race itself.  The first leg of the relay was outstanding and, according to my relay partner, the second leg was just as good.  Breathtaking scenery, with breahttaking ascents to match!  Met some great people on the route and was well looked after at the checkpoints - one to do again!

The team at Mud Crew have come up with another brutal and stunning event.

Mud Crew dont do easy! and it showed on this event. The coastal terrain makes this event a must for anyone's bucket list. The aid stations are well stocked and run by experienced ultra runners which made you feel well looked after.

Never under estimate the coast!!

I run the SW coast path and trails regularly, and train a reasonable amount of miles, so i thought 40 miles of Cornish coast would be a sensible amount for a first ultra....OMG!! I have done extended marathons on the coast before but none of them have come close to this monster!! If you love hills you'll love this. As always excellent friendly marshals and one hell of a well organised event by the amazing Mudcrew team...Next stop Plague for me...Onwards and upwards.
