About the race

The RAT – Roseland August Trail Race Series – is a series of challenging coastal runs along the stunning South Cornwall Coastal Path.

It incorporates four different routes, The Black Route 32 miles, The Red Route 22 miles, The White Route 11 miles and The Plague (green) 100K – 64 miles ! All these routes follow the same part of coastline, with runners from different routes joining each other at different points along the way. The route takes competitors though stunning coastal scenery, over undulating paths, through fields, villages and surrounding countryside – it is not for the faint hearted! Whilst we’d love you to take on the 100k Plague – we hope that even runners new to ultra and coastal running will find something here to suit their level. Be advised that entries to each route are limited; so be sure to book your place early to avoid disappointment. There will be no provision for on the day entry. Mudcrew like to get the best out of life, that’s why The RAT is much more than just a race. We are all passionate about running but amongst the mud, sweat and tears of the race we feel there needs to be some room for having a good time, meeting fellow running enthusiasts and talking about what adventures we’ve had. At the RAT race village, there will be an afternoon and evening of entertainment, a fully licensed Tribute bar, trade stands and plenty of food and drink outlets. Camping, with great facilities, is also available and all in all we think a lovely little weekend is very likely. All you need to do now is decide how far you want to go.

Five stars across the board. Can't think of anything to improve.

Second time I've run the RAT, will run again next year and as long as I can physically put one foot in front of another. A fixture.

Absolutely beautiful run

The RAT - Roseland August Trail

I always thought I wasn't a good enough runner to do this event. I am not the usual runner. I am too heavy and like to talk far too much when running!!! Last year I used the 11 mile route as a training run for another event. I then ran a few other trail events. Somehow or another I found myself signing up for the Red Rat, I didn't realise it was 3 weeks after the Snowdonia Half Marathon! But hey ho, it was all good training!!!

Once on site at Porthpean, everything was really well managed; Kit check, registration and bag drop just happened followed by the race briefing and getting on the coaches. The atmosphere was fantastic. Watching the convoy of buses wind there way around the lanes was a great way to get into the spirit of the event. Runners talked to each other and everyone was friendly. We then walked the short distance to the start line and queued to use the portaloos for the final time. We took a few photos and waited for the start. I felt very humble watching the Plague and the 32 mile runners coming through the check points, that really helped me to stay clam and not worry about the task ahead. If these awesome people could keep running with a smile and a kind word than I could do this.

Then off we went, watched by the magical eye in the sky. I felt really confident. (That is quite rare for me!!). All of the runners were respectful and supportive. The marshalls and photographers along the route were great, all full of support and encouragement. And then came the checkpoints, oh my, that was a first! I felt like royalty!! And who thought flat Coke would taste so good!!

The crowning glory for me, was seeing Andrew Ferguson at the top of the path at the final part of the route clapping and giving encouragement.

Thank you to everyone involved. A truly great event. I am so glad I entered this event.

If I can do it, so can you!!

What a day

Wow this was a fantastic event. This is my first mud crew event and I managed to complete the Black Rat the hardest and furthest I have run in my life so far. It was brutal, but the support was amazing. The marshalls were just brilliant and the fuel stops were just what the doctor ordered. Thank you all so much for all the encouragement from everyone. I will be back xxx

Supported by heroes

I've run the 32 miler twice and it is my home playground, but I'm still not sick of it hence why this year I jumped up to the 64mile Plague.

If you want a challenge this race, no matter what distance, is the one. It is not for the faint hearted. Focussing on the 103km Plague, you are given priority right from the start and every racer respects you.

Check in started at 6pm the Friday with a brief at 11:30pm, Plague runners are given a glow stick to attach and a fluorescent green bib, one to be seen at night but also to be noticed by supporters and runners so they can acknowledge you are running the furthest distance or out there for the longest time.

At the check points you are attended to first even if you weren't there first (that being said there are always plenty of marshalls, I've never seen anyone waiting in line) you have the option to be waited on hand and foot (quite literally), I personally was in and out at check points but I know others who were seated, brought food/food and seen to. On the course, even though everyone is running their own race, I couldn't see a single runner who wouldn't give you priority on the route, offer you food/water, check you're okay and give general encouragement.

The actual checkpoints have a good offering, most offer repeated things but there are a couple special treats at certain check points including porridge and ice poles < amazing shout in August sunshine, 60 miles in. You've got the choice of a range of salty crisps, lots of different sweets including jelly beans, fresh fruit (bananas, oranges, watermelon), biscuits, as well as a lot more. There is also a good selection of drinks including coke, water, energy drink and squash.

If you are after a scenic race, this is beautiful!  I've been fortunate to experience good weather and you have the stunning Cornish coastline the entire route. You run along the coastal path passing through traditional Corning fishing villages, national trust sites and farmers fields.

But most overwhelmingly, it is the support from runners, crowds, marshalls and organisers. It's incredible at so many points along the way, even through the night. What a finish too!

you are presented with a hefty, well deserved medal and if you ordered one, a t-shirt or hoody. Then the top 3 males and females of each stage get a very well crafted trophy, definitely a keeper.

i must say as well that the sponsors are great, Tesco and I believe the co op helped with lots if not all the food. There are good choices for dietary requirements but definitely bring your own snacks anyway. The sports massages are very efficient and a very good price.

would highly recommend!

My first trail and first ultra

The Black RAT was my first trail and first ultra marathon. Whilst I don't live in the area currently, the Roseland is where I grew up so it's an event I've wanted to do since hearing about it.

It is 32m of the most beautiful coastline which distracts you when the going gets a little tough!. This is a brilliantly run event, everything from the registration to leaving the car park afterwards has been thought about. The marshalls and check point crew are all encouraging whilst making sure that you have everything that you need and that you personally are OK as well.

As there are four different distance events occuring at the same time, there are always plenty of others out on the course at the same time and the commaraderie between the runners is also great.

I will be back but also, I've been converted from a road runner into a trail runner!

Friends, ferns and finishing: what a fabulous weekend

I have worked my way up through the RAT distances and it is always one of my favourite weekends of the year, such a great atmosphere and brilliant to catch up with friends old and new.

This year I tackled the Plague and whilst on every aspect Mud Crew are worth the 5/5 score, their slogan "we don't do easy" was certainly ringing in my ears by the halfway mark, if I never see another fern again in my life it will be too soon!

Ferns aside, there are some absolutely stunning coastal views along this route, a privilege to enjoy some of these along the way and to be a part of this unrivalled festival of running once again.

White 11 mile Rat race

The RAT - Roseland August Trail

What a brilliant race, from start to finish I enjoyed it all! Very well organised from the car parking, to registration, to shuttle buses to the start of the white rat race. Everyone was extremely helpful and friendly. Even time to support the red, black and plague runners before our race started.

I started this race with my friend (she's done it twice before!) we walked the up hills, only mad people run up them! The views were stunning, the weather amazing, I even saw a seal swimming in the sea in one of the bays, amazing site. Well sign posted all the way with red arrows. About half way was an oasis also know as a food station! Wow! What didn't they have! Ice pops, water melon, sweets, crisps, biscuits, peanuts, water to top up bottles and camel packs. I didn't want to leave! That was the hardest bit, oh no it wasn't, it was the steps up and more steps down, and even more steps up, feel the burn! But the views were stunning, every step so worth it! Then I came towards the final up hill to the finish and the support from everyone was amazing, I finished with a big smile on my face as I was given my white Rat medal. Great refreshments tent too. Thank you to everyone who made this race special, I will be back next year!

MudCrew surpass expectation yet again.

The RAT - Roseland August Trail

From arriving Friday afternoon at event village to leaving Sunday morning I seamlessly glided from point to point apart from the fabulously gruelling 64 miles of the Plague race.

Registration was slick, accommodation area and facilities were spot on. Plenty of nice clean facilities and wonderful warm showers.

Variety of catering options catering for all my needs along with race sponsors carrying any last minute race kit needs.

Fantastic presentation from a selection of GB Ultra Athletes sharing learning and insight.

Super slick organisation throughout the race and amazing support for the Vested Plague runners from every other participant and all the marshals.

Just felt like royalty throughout the race even though I'm a mid to back pack plaguer.

Wonderfully brutal course but everything I believed it to be. 18 hours of very hard work with a barrrell of laughter and tears along the way

Then finally the all inclusive after party and social scene. Just so chilled and enjoyable. Didn't want the weekend to end.

Already the results and photos ate comi g through thick and fast.

Keep up the amazing work Mud Crew, your people are the BEST and so are your events.

Great feed stations, some lovely hills and most importantly; organised and marshalled by the fabulous folk at Mudcrew. Already looking forward to next year!

Beautiful race, Seemless organisation

If running along a beautiful coastal path in Cornwall is not enough temptation to enter this race, then read any reviews of these races on social media, and you will understand the people factor that makes this a very special series of races. There is a race for everyone.

Organisation is faultless, consistent, clear instructions and with a good dose of humour thrown in. Mudcrew RDs and team are absolutely incredible. Volunteers are all experienced ultra runners and take  such good care of you that I personally never wanted to leave a CP!! Atmosphere fantastic. All the other runners help each other out constantly. Haven't seen anything like it!

it was a tough 100m run, but beautiful and in incredible company

By far the best event I have entered so far! Fantastic crew, Route, check points, marshals, medals, facilities ..... the list could go on!

You could not fault this event at all! The support throughout the race was awesome. The marshals were great at check points and throughout the course. They cheered you on, refilled bottles, fed you if needed, I even saw one do someone's trainers up for them!!

The bee's knees

I'll keep this short. Great base camp. Facilities, campsite and atmosphere are amazing. Race organisation is 2nd to none. Marking, check points are faultless. They go one step further to ensure that you are supported and do your best. Never left a CP in a better state. The course is so, so tough. Hills and pace make it a real challenge. Loved training for it, loved racing it. It hurt, but I can't wait to go back.

Incredible race - put it on your bucket list!

This is the 2nd year I have done the Black RAT 32 mile, and the whole event was even better than last year. Registration was simple, but a thorough kit check was carried out for everyone's safety. Organisation was superb, the marshalling and support could not be bettered. Food stations had everything you could need, and some you didn't realise you wanted (pork scratchings). After cramping up twice, the excellent medical team sorted me out and enabled me to finish. Excellent camping site with really good showers. I am already considering which event to do next year.

Undoubted value for money,a race to stay in the heart, superb organistation, incredible staff

The initial prospect terrified me a little through translation from a close friend who had done The Arc and Plague before. This is all about pleasure and pain .but any of that pain is comforted by falling back onto a pillow that is the reassurance received from every quarter.the cp stations are just like a buffet full of everything that hits the spot when all seems to be flagging.the course is what it says on the tin.but if you dont enjoy the scenary, the atmosphere(most have conceeded to insanity) then something is missing.what is not to enjoy about this race?....everything is covered.managed the 20 (red) but something is pulling at me to do the black next August 2018....unfortunatley my recovery has been fresh enough to justify this......no brainer with this, just do this race..you wont regret it

Best festival of the summer

I'm a two time finisher of The Plague 100km. R.A.T weekend is more than just four races. It's a gathering of friends old and new, the running family coming together from far and wide.

From the leaders of the packs to last runner across the line and to all who toed the line, everyone supports and encourages all. Everyone is made to feel a winner.

The races are hard, challenging, brutal in places yet you'll never leave without feeling you've achieved something special.

If calsberg did races ....

It's so hard to give this race justice in words. Absolutely brilliant from the word go! Information prior to the event was exceptional, registration swift and efficient. With a shuttle bus service from the race village to your starting points and unbelievably well stocked check points you really want for nothing with these guys. All the stress is taken away from you, leaving you to concentrate on your running and taking in the stunning surroundings. Then there is the crew..... if calsberg did crew!!! Absolutely sublime. They atmosphere within the race village and out on the trail uplifts you to the point you almost forget the steps! The only downside is for two days afterwards you feel like you have the holiday blues as this doesn't feel like just a race it's a running festival!

I've got the Plague

From the moment you register you feel part of " the family " I stood on the start line for the Plague 64 Miles . We left Porthpean at 005 and headed out for St Antony's head the route was well marked and had glow sticks marking areas of doubt in direction . All the Cps were well stocked and seemed to know exactly what you wanted and when ! My favourite cp was the Bacon Sandwich and tea one shortly after the turnaround . Anyone thinking of doing a first 100k race then look no further I'll be back again for sure !

Black RAT 32 miles

The RAT - Roseland August Trail

I have done this race two years running and the year before that I did the 64 mile Plague. The race directors have got everything perfectly organised and the volunteers are first class!  knowledgeable and help you with every little request from filling up water bottles to giving advice. Each of the checkpoints had excellent medical help provided by friendly medics.

The coastal path is challenging in parts but very scenic. To top this off the camping is perfect as is the after party.  Excellent marquees provide a wide variety of  food and brilliant coffee.

So if you've not run this race before sign up quickly when you can as it tends to sell out pretty rapidly.

The Beautiful And Brutal RAT

Having completed two distances in separate years in the event, I can highly recommend the Roseland Autumn Trail. Race organisers Mudcrew stage spectacular races, and the RAT is no exception, from the slick registration process through to the pre-race countdown briefings, and organisation at the event on the day and throughout the festival weekend, the process is seamless, and participants enjoy the support of experienced ultra runners at every CP along with physics and medics. The landscape is breathtakingly beautiful, and the event has a fantastically friendly vibe, where old acquaintances are renewed, and new friendships are formed. Great value for money, and nothing is too much trouble to the Mudcrew RD and his team, even down to his handshake to all finishers. I can't praise this race series enough, and will be back for more next year, who knows, maybe in a green vest.

Finally had my chance this year to sample the RAT and it was amazing. There was so much respect and love both on and off the course no matter what distance you were doing. What can I say...the hardest race I have ever done but I'm absolutely on cloud 9 right now!! The reason I choose this race as my first 100k was because I knew the support and organisation from Mudcrew would be amazing and I wasn't wrong. Every checkpoint I was greeted by marshals and a medic...water topped up, food there ready, asked if I needed anything...it was the boost that was needed to refocus and get me on my way again. The route is not for the faint hearted, it's challenging but the views are absolutely stunning and watching the sunrise was something I won't forget. Fabulous!

Amazing race, fantastic organisation on the day and a wonderful weekend. If I had to be really picky, signage on the road to the parking could be clearer or more prevalent. On arrival at the event we were a bit confused about where to go/camp and there were no stewards around for advice but we did arrive quite late on the Friday evening. We just pitched up and all was fine though!

My amazing adventure

This was my first time participating in the Red RAT. I had an amazing day... the views were stunning, the company and banter from other Ratters was scintillating. The organisation by MudCrew from the guys managing the car parking, the kit check and registration, transportation the the start, the amazing teams at the check points, the happy smikey marshalls and the excellent signage was second to none. Fantastic effort by all... and I intend to enter again next year.

I'll be back

I have done this event before completing the 20 and 32 miles courses on a number of occasions but this year I went and entered the plague, the 64 mile daddy!

Started at midnight which is a first for me but it was all good except for the fact that I had picked up and injury and had to pull out at 11 miles as I couldn't move. The marshals and medic at the checkpoint were brilliant and I decided that it wouldn't be good to try and carry on.

I will be back next year to complete the event and I would recommend this event (any distance) to everyone, its one you must come and do.

Well done again Mudcrew!!

Best organisers in the business!

Second time I have done the event and I will be back again next year. Mud Crew are quite simply the best at putting an event of this type on. Distances for every level and a whole host of useful info in their event guide and FB updates etc. Always respond to questions very quickly and nothing is too much trouble. Course was as beautiful as ever and the facilities, stalls, physio and first aid support were all first rate. Would recommend this to anyone who fancies a challenge but will be in well cared for and experienced hands!

5+ star as I cannot fault it in anyway. Would highly recommend to everyone, which is part of it's beauty. Not only do you get to run along stunning Cornish scenery whichever distance you choose (which makes you feel like you're abroad), but along the way see so many inspiring, supportive people to help you & keep you going, feeling part of a community. The RAT - Roseland August Trail

Well organised event held on the stunning Roseland coast path. Everything from registration, race briefings and transportation to the start point was all very easy.

The race itself....challenging but very scenic, a day out with good views.

The checkpoints excellent. Well stocked with fruit, sweets, water ,flat coke The orange segments were so good at Portloe. The marshals on hand for your every need helping to refill bottles ,bladders. Give advise or at times the necessary kick up the backside too get you on your way.

The finish and event village had everything you needed. Physio, Rock tape, food, beer and more.

Andrew and Jane too greet the finishers over the line and give them the well earned medal.

Great event, well organised. Would do it again, though legs currently disagree

Wow what a race

so I get to the event village a few hours before the race and when I say village there was camping , stalls , massage and free taping , food and drink it was more than a race this was a get together and social chit chatter of like minded ppl . The registration and kit check was like a well oiled machine in and out in minutes . Safety briefing was very informative and to the point which is a relief , as the last thing you want before running 64 miles is listen to a load of useless , self important nonsense. So we stood on the start line at 5 mins past midnight and the race starts , just a flurry of head torches heading off into what seems complete darkness as this part of the world really has no light pollution. This run was exhilarating and abusing to the body and mind , without the checkpoints and the marshalls that filled them I would not have finished . They look after your every need and it took me back to be honest here I was a complete novice running on my second ultra and I'm being looked after by multiple 100 miler ultra runners and because they have been through the pain loads of times they knew how you felt and knew that phrases like " not far now " is not what someone wants to hear after 18 hours and 60 odd miles lol . So basically after this long ass review mudcrew are fantastic from top to bottom if I could have given more than 5out 5 I would . Also a hug from the event lady Jane at the end was the icing on the cake

Bubonic!

I have completed one of the shorter races in thje RAT series every year since it started but decided to attempt The Plague this year.  As in all previous years the organisation was first class, and the support across the course from all involved was superb.  Unfortunately I was able to check out the support to the full as, despite tremendous encouragement for checkpoint staff I pulled out at 47 miles in the company of a great sweep runner. Not easy to say you enjoyed a DNF, but I did.

The RAT - Roseland August Trail

I did the Black RAT. 32 miles up and down the steep steps and hills of the beautiful Cornish Coast Path. I ran it with 4 friends with the aim of finishing it, not aiming for any set time. We all loved it, with some suffering a bit more than others on a very hot and humid day. 4 of us 5 finsihed together with one dropping out, but he had completed it the previous year. A fantastic , well run evemt with a great race village and atmosphere afterwards. I would recomend this to anyone who wants a challenge, but you will also love it .

Mud Crew RAT

I completed the Red RAT, my first Mud Crew event. I'm not an experienced trail runner and certainly not an "Athelete". But after watching and supportiing a friend at this amazing event for the last few years, with her encouragement, I took the plunge and entered.

Im so glad I did, was it tough? Yes but Mud Crew do everything to get you to the finish line and that coveted RAT Medal. The course is in my opinion is on one of the most beautiful, dramatic stretches of the SW Coast Path. Passing through quaint Harbour Villages, amazing views of secluded beaches and ever changing terrain.

From Registration to the end the whole event was brilliantly run. Check points manned by experienced trail runners, who knew exactly what you needed to refuel and cheerfully sent you on your way with encouraging words. Enthusiastic Marshalls and support form the running community and residents.

Great event village.....Ok, you probably get the picture, the word I hear runners us most frequently sums the whole day up,  it was simply AWESOME

Do it - you won't regret it!

Just done this for the second year in a row. Last year it was the 11 mile White RAT, this year the 20 mile Red RAT... next year the 32 Black?! Who knows. This is the BEST event/race/weekend I've ever done, we make it a family weekend as well as a club weekend. It's hard as nails but worth every second of agony for the moment of joy/sense of achievement as you cross the line and sink your well earned cold Korev/Rattler. Beautiful Cornish scenery (please take a moment to look around, you'll probably need a breather at the top of one of many hills!). The organisation is second to none, you really feel looked after at every step of the way, both from the Mud Crew at the aid stations, the locals and tourists you meet along the route, and from all the other runners, it's a REAL community spirit. I cannot recommend this event highly enough :-)

Absolutely love RAT, this is not my only Mud Crew run event I have attended, every run they organise is by runners for runners. From booking the event, to the informative emails leading up to the event itself everything is covered.  The race organisers, marshals etc cannot be praised enough for their support during the run, the check points have more than just water available, I'm talking jelly beans, crisps, bread rolls, mini sausages and ice pops, oh yesssss ice pops !!!

Black Rat 2016

There's a world of running and then there's a world of Ultra running! There are no events I have ever done that have come as close as 20 percent of this event. The phenomenonal support means you are never on your own here. From the crew at registration to the medical team and all inbetween. The pain and hardship are rewarded by hugs, smiles, wonderful faces and people that know what you've just gone through. There are 2 types of races.

One where the organiser wants to make as much cash as possible and one where the the crew are runners themselves who do it for the love, passion and energy of our engagingly beautiful sport.

I really don't need to say which one Mudcrew is!

Best event I've took part in and it's because of the crew!

Thank you guys for your hard work and endless days of doing all the great stuff that gives us 10 times the event for our money!

Quite simply the best race I've ever run

I really cannot find the right words to describe what an amazing race this was. I've only been running for just over a year, the longest I've ever run was a HM and I'd never attempted a coastal run before (no opportunity). I did the 11mile race and although I was on my own, the camaraderie was second to none, even from runners doing the longer distances. Everybody looked out for each other, everyone giving way to faster runners, it was a pure joy to be a part of it all.

The organisation was fantastic, the marshals were brilliant, the views were magnificent and I found it easy to navigate even when I was completely on my own (and I'm rubbish at navigation!). The water stations were great, everyone super friendly and the stop at Pentewan  (the only one for me) was out of this world. As I was approaching it, I was hoping is be allowed more than 1 cup of water because I was so low. Instead, one of the many marshals came after me and insisted she should fill my bladder with a whole jug of water. I only realised the importance of it when I was getting more and more thirsty towards the end and very importantly, I was able to help a fellow runner who had run out. It felt wonderful to be able to help, as strange as it may sound, it was one of the highlights for me. We were all friends in the race. There were loads of biscuits, cakes, fruit, even ice lollies. I was quite simply astonished.

Would love to do it again next year, maybe upgrade to the next level, especially knowing the amazing support you get on route.

Even in my first 17 months of running, and although I've run dozens and dozens of races, nothing compares to this one.

Tough Challenge Beautiful Views

The RAT - Roseland August Trail

extremely tough course, which can be made harder by opting for the 64 miles, starting at midnight to do the course in reverse before turning around and heading back to the start.

The hardest part is the last 5 miles, be prepared for all the steps... Though no matter how much you practice they never seem to get easier.

When you do get a chance to look up from placing your feet on the uneven ground, you'll be rewarded with beautiful scenes, spotting local fishermen, seals, farm animals, fields for miles and the Cornish coast.

Marshels are super encouraging and very passionate about the event and so are the competitors. It is such a friendly weekend, even amongst the super speedy ones. Though don't be fooled, they are superhuman with the times they have set.

Love this event, one of my favourites and it gets better each year.

Tough but well worth the effort.

The RAT - Roseland August Trail

First time running the Rat and decided to do the Red (20miles). Probably the toughest race that I have ever done. Hills, hills and more hills. But the views you get at the top make it all worth while. When I finished I was exhausted but I'm defiantly going to do it again next year - might even think about the Black (32miles). All very well organised and ran smoothly. Every single marshal and checkpoint person were happy to help and really friendly. I don't have a single gripe about the day and have been left feeling energised (no seriously I have lol) and even slightly emotional at how beautiful Cornwall is. But be warned: all routes are tough and there is no shelter from the sun (or wind and rain) so be prepared.

Well organised race series in a beautiful location

The RAT - Roseland August Trail

This race series has evolved into a slick operation and gets bigger every year. What really makes this festival stand out is the spectacular setting and the amazing crew and marshals. The fact that all runners are on the same coastpath means even the more novice trail runners rub shoulders with proven ultra runners and everyone looks after each other. The checkpoint crews treat everyone the same, which mean you're pampered and made to feel like a real runner. Be warned though, these are tough races no matter what distance, treat them with respect. If it's hot there's no hiding from the sun, but if you make it to the finish there's a cracking party.

Really good event.

I'm into trail running, and I do a lot of miles on the SW coast path around the village where I live. A lot of my running freinds had mentioned the RAT, and I thought I've got to give this a go, and I'm really glad that I did. I'm used to running on challenging terrain with a lot of elevation, but I underestimated this one. I ran the 20 mile Red RAT, and it was an awesome experience, one thing that I will never forget is running through Gorran, and being cheered by hundreds of people, mostly runners waiting to start the 11 mile White RAT.  Whatever distance you do, it is a highly recommended event, and one not to miss.

Awesome

Absolutley loved it! I will be entering the Plague next year.

The only thing I would like to see next year is more water stations to throw over yourself as it was so hot or some sponge stations.

Cheers guys - keep doing what you are doing because you are awesome at it!

The RAT series does it again!

The RAT series has a lot to answer for - in 2012 I was infected with the trail-running bug after the White RAT (11 mile) event, in 2013 I completed my first Ultra in the Black RAT (32 mile) event, and I have run it ever since.  The whole event is tremendous; fabulous organisation, inspirational guest speakers (to help you get the best out of your event), wonderful company on the way and a stunning route!  There is a distance for everyone, from 11 to 64 miles and the event is growing in popularity - I will be applying early for 2017 to guarantee my place!
