Ran this as a build up to my marathon. Good registration and admin so no worries with that. We parked nearby and there didn’t seem to be any major problems with parking. The marshalls were v friendly and everything went pretty smoothly. The first part of the run, through the town, was nice, especially as I know the streets of Henley well from days of old. That said, I got carried away and ran at far too fast a pace with the whippets. Would suffer later on because of that, especially when I hit the “hill”. Now, the hill is pretty steep, through wooded countryside, and gradually ramps up and seems to go on for a fair old while. Some people who overtook me on the lower ramp I found walking further up, so don’t burn straight into it but build gradually, oryou will suffer later! Now what goes up...must..etc etc- yes, the downhill! As a 88kg rugby player, the downhill is quite painful as it is steep in places and so is quite jarring on the knees/ legs! Still, let yourself go and make up some time! I then found myself running on the side of a slightly main road, with aid stations, back into the town. I had got over my fast paced start by this stage, and came in at 1:31- ohhh, so close to that 1:30 Mark...! A good race and a nice build up race to the marathon.
